Why Gyokuro? How to Brew it Right Way

The Hidden Beauty of Gyokuro: Japan’s Finest Green Tea

What is Gyokuro? ― A Luxurious Drop of “Dew”

Gyokuro, meaning “jade dew,” is one of Japan’s highest-grade green teas. Unlike regular sencha, Gyokuro is cultivated and brewed differently, resulting in a tea with an incredibly smooth, umami-rich flavor, often compared to kombu (kelp) broth.

How to Brew Gyokuro ― A Tea to Savor Drop by Drop

Gyokuro is not brewed like regular green tea. Its preparation is a ritual of patience and precision.

Step 1: Use Low-Temperature Water. Boil water let it cool to around 40°C / 104°F. Gyokuro is so delicate that it can even brewed using ice cubes

Step 2: Add Just Enough Water to Barely Cover the Leaves.

Pour only a small amount of water over the tea leaves—just enough to make them slightly wet.

Step 3: Steep Slowly (4-5 Minutes)

Allow the tea to steep slowly. Unlike sencha, Gyokuro takes its time to release flavor.

Step 4: Pour Out Every Last Drop

The final drop is the most flavorful, this is where the name “jade dew” truly shines. Don’t rush, enjoy the last drop like a rare gem.

The Taste and Aroma of Gyokuro, Soft, Rich, and Umami-Packed.

Gyokuro offers a mellow, umami-forward taste with little to no bitterness. Its aroma is reminiscent of high-quality broth, smooth and full-bodied, completely different from sencha or matcha.

Health Benefits of Gyokuro — For Skin, Mind, and Body

  • Theanine: Promotes relaxation and reduces stress.
  • Catechins: Antioxidants that support skin health and slow aging.

Gyokuro isn’t just tasty, it’s incredibly nutritious.
